Jefferson Middle School offers a variety of clubs and activities for students. Learn more about each club and its sponsor below.

Anime Club

Sponsor: Ms. Moore

The Anime Club is a fun, welcoming space for fans of all things anime and manga! We'll gather to watch favorites, read and discuss manga, snack on Japanese treats, and enjoy games inspired by Japanese pop culture. Whether you're a longtime fan or just starting out, it's the perfect place to share your love for anime with friends!

Archery Club

Sponsor: Ms. Grider

We practice weekly, here at Jeff and beginner equipment is provided. Please don’t buy anything until we talk! We are limited to what can be used in the NASP program. Students will learn and build upon existing skills through the National Archery in Schools Program. Students will have the option to shoot at the practice club level or join our competition team.

Art Studio

For students who are interested in the visual arts and enjoy developing their creativity. We will work on a variety of art projects throughout the year including projects for the school, our community, areas of personal interest, and art medium exploration.

Book Club

For students who want to read and discuss books picked by the group.

Builders Club

It is a student service organization. We are a part of the local Boonslick Kiwanis. We do service projects for both JMS and the community.

Club Shuri

SHURI stands for STEAM for Historically Under-Represented Individuals and groups. While we are open to all students, our focus is to learn about and to help increase the number of women, LGBTQIA+, Indigenous, Black, and people of color in STEAM professions. Through a variety of activities and guest speakers, we learn skills to prepare ourselves for advanced careers in STEAM-related fields. Through generous support from The Columbia STEM Alliance, we do a variety of FUN STEAM activities throughout the year!

Creative Writing Club

Sponsor: Mr. Hanselman

For students who like to write and create stories. This will focus on how to write and encourage your own creativity!! We will write and read our own stories, offer suggestions, and create final products.

Fiber Arts Club

Sponsors: Ms. Howell & Ms. McKenzie

Weave, knit, crochet, felt, spin and dye fibers of all sorts! If you have started to learn or want to learn to make things with yarn and natural fibers such as wool or alpaca, this club is for you!

FIRST Lego League Robotics Team

Sponsors: Ms. McKenzie & Mrs. Halbrook

Grades: 6-8 (10 students)

Students will design, build, and program an autonomous LEGO EV3 robot to complete missions on a themed gameboard. Teams also conduct a research project and prepare presentations for judging. The team will compete in the Columbia FLL Tournament on Sat. Dec. 5 or 12 (tbc).

Selection: Team members will be selected after the first two meetings.

FIRST Tech Challenge Robotics Team

Sponsor: Ms. McKenzie

Grades: 7-8 (15 students)

Students apply & must have a teacher recommendation. Working with high school and adult mentors, team members will design, build, & program a large autonomous/remote-controlled robot to compete in challenges such as collecting and shooting balls, reaching high objects, and hanging from obstacles.

Students will learn Java-based coding, CAD design, fabrication, electronics, and sensor integration, while documenting their work in an engineering portfolio and presenting to judges at competitions.

J-MAC Scholars

Sponsor: Mr. Dampier

JMAC (Jefferson Multicultural Achievement Committee) provides students with the necessary skills and support to achieve success academically, emotionally, and socially. The club encourages students to maintain a strong GPA. Students will participate in activities that build character. JMAC’s goal is to ensure college and career readiness for students.

Kids in STEM

Sponsor: Ms. Sadowski

Students will participate in STEM related challenges and experiments connected to STEM. They will also have the opportunity to learn about STEM fields in and around our community. We meet twice a month, starting in January.

Kindness Club

Sponsor: Senora Sanchez

The Kindness Club is a student leadership organization that promotes kindness and compassion through service projects within the school, the district and the community.

Math Counts

Sponsor: Mr. Johnson

For students who are interested in competitive mathematics. Students will enhance their math skills in a fun and interactive manner as they compete against other teams. Meets once a week September - March.

Potter Pod

Sponsors: Ms. Huggins, Ms. Ott, Ms. Donfris

Inviting all Gryffindors, Hufflepuffs, Ravenclaws, and even Slytherins. If you are a Harry Potter fanatic (you know who you are), join us and participate in Harry Potter themed science, technology, and art activities. We may even play a game of Quidditch!

Science Olympiad

For students who enjoy competing in fun and exciting events that test their skills and abilities in the field of science. We work as a team against other schools at regional competitions.

Strategic Gaming Club

Calling all gamers! Strategic Gaming is a fun, interactive way to build confidence, social skills, and good sportsmanship by playing games. Students will have the opportunity to play a variety of board, card, and roleplaying games focusing on strategy, critical thinking, and cooperation.

For students who want to help make JMS the best middle school in Columbia! We meet to plan events like all school parties, spirit weeks, and dances and to discuss student ideas, issues or concerns...and so much more.

T-NADO

For all students that want to make new friends, are committed to making healthy choices, like to volunteer in their community, and enjoy doing fun things with friends outside of school.

Video Game Club

This club is for students who enjoy playing different video games with classmates.

Voices of Jeff is an after-school club that meets weekly and focuses on learning the ropes of Show Choir. We plan to learn 3 songs w/ choreography and perform them at an event in the Spring.
